Extension Privacy Policy
What the Email Health Check browser extension does with your data. Short answer: almost nothing.
Last updated: · Applies to: Email Health Check by MailAfiniti (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)
In Plain English:
- Only runs when you click the icon. The extension does nothing in the background.
- Only reads the domain name. Not the page content, not your browsing history, not anything personal.
- Sends one thing to our API: the domain (e.g.
example.com) so we can look up its public DNS records. - We store nothing. No logs of which domains you checked, no user accounts, no tracking.
- Free tool, no ads, no data sales. We make money from MailAfiniti subscriptions, not your data.
1. What the Extension Accesses
When you click the extension icon, it reads the domain name of the tab you are currently viewing — for example, example.com. That is the only information it reads.
The extension does not read the page content, your cookies, your login state, form data, or any personal information on the page. It cannot see what you are doing on the site.
This access only happens at the moment you click the icon. The extension has no background process and performs no activity while you browse.
2. How the DNS Lookup Works
The domain name is sent as a single POST request to MailAfiniti's public API at api.mailafiniti.io. The API performs a DNS lookup on that domain to retrieve its SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and MX records. These are publicly accessible records that any mail server or email client can look up — the same records your recipient's server checks when deciding whether to deliver your email.
Technical note for store reviewers:
- The extension uses Manifest V3 with
activeTabpermission only. - The only network request made is a POST to
https://api.mailafiniti.io/api/public/email-health-checkwith body{ domain: "example.com" }. - No remote scripts are loaded. No external fonts. No analytics SDKs.
- The
host_permissionsfield in the manifest is scoped tohttps://api.mailafiniti.io/*only, not<all_urls>.
3. What We Do Not Do
Track your browsing history
We never record which sites you visit, which tabs you open, or when you browse.
Read page content
The extension cannot read, capture, or transmit the text, images, or data on any web page.
Collect personal information
We do not collect names, email addresses, IP addresses, device identifiers, or any other personal data through the extension.
Use cookies or trackers
The extension popup sets no cookies and includes no advertising or analytics trackers.
Run in the background
The extension has no background service worker or persistent process. It only runs when you explicitly click the icon.
Sell or share data
We do not sell, rent, or share any data with advertisers, data brokers, or third parties for commercial purposes.
Profile users
We do not build profiles of individuals based on their usage of the extension.
4. Permissions Explained
The extension requests two permissions. Here is exactly why each one is needed:
activeTabLets the extension read the URL of the tab you are currently viewing, but only at the moment you click the icon. This is the minimum permission needed to know which domain to check. It does not grant background access to any tabs.
host_permissions: https://api.mailafiniti.io/*Allows the extension to make a network request to MailAfiniti's API to run the DNS lookup. Without this, the browser would block the request. The permission is scoped to the MailAfiniti API only — no other domains.
5. Data Retention
The extension retains no data locally and we retain no logs of individual lookups on our servers.
The domain name sent to our API is used only to fulfil the DNS lookup request and is not stored, indexed, or associated with any user account or session after the response is returned.
Standard server infrastructure logs (such as web server access logs used for security and uptime monitoring) may record the IP address of the request and the domain queried for a short rolling period, consistent with industry-standard infrastructure operations. These logs are not used for profiling and are not shared.
6. Third-Party Services
The only external service the extension communicates with is MailAfiniti's own API (api.mailafiniti.io), which is operated by MailAfiniti. No third-party analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or tracking services are included in the extension.
The extension popup may display links to pages on mailafiniti.com and app.mailafiniti.io. Following these links opens your default browser and is subject to MailAfiniti's website Privacy Policy.
7. Children's Privacy
The Email Health Check extension is a technical tool intended for adults, specifically website owners, email administrators, and developers. It is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has used this extension and data has been submitted in error, please contact us at the address below and we will take appropriate action.
8. GDPR & CCPA
Because the extension does not collect personal data as defined under GDPR (EU) 2016/679 or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), most of the obligations under those regulations do not apply to this extension in practice. Specifically:
- •The domain names of websites are not personal data — they are public identifiers.
- •No information that could directly identify an individual is collected or processed.
- •No user profiling, automated decision-making, or cross-context behavioural advertising takes place.
If you are an EU or California resident and have questions about how MailAfiniti handles personal data in its wider services (such as the email hosting platform), please refer to our full Privacy Policy and Data Processing Agreement.
9. Changes to This Policy
If we change what data the extension collects or how it is used, we will update this page with a new "Last updated" date and, where the change is material, release a new version of the extension to the relevant browser stores with release notes describing the change.
Continued use of the extension after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. If you do not agree with a change, you may uninstall the extension at any time through your browser's extension management page.
